Sharing your life data shouldn’t be hard. Give your loved ones secure access with Vidadata.

Security is our #1 screenshot

Securing your life data. It’s what we do.

Vidadata is built on a foundation of security. Your life data is encrypted with state-of-the-art AES-256 cipher leveraging independent keys for each recorded asset which are generated offline at the device level. Those keys are then transported by a RSA-4096 key pair, the highest level of RSA encryption available today.

Independent Keys

Each asset that you store within Vidadata is individually encrypted with its own unique set of keys. This ensures a broad spectrum of security across your entire life data file.

Local Encryption

By leveraging local-only encryption, you protect your data from all eyes, including ours! Your password, which is salted and hashed so that we can’t see that either, is known only by you and never transmitted to our servers.

Multi-factor Authentication

MFA adds another layer on top of your username and password to ensure the highest level of security for access to your account. MFA is enabled by default on all Vidadata accounts.

Shared Security

When sharing your life data with your loved ones, or accessing your data from multiple devices, Vidadata encrypts the entire end-to-end transaction, leveraging locally generated keys on each device. This creates a seamless, easy sharing experience with the top-levels of security.

Frequently Asked Questions

100% Yes. Vidadata stores all of your life data in one secure location. We use multiple levels of advanced security and encryption techniques to keep your data secure, including AES-256 and RSA-4096, the highest standards of security available today used by the U.S. government and secure organizations worldwide.

Your data is all encrypted right on your phone, using private keys that are never known by the Vidadata servers. We couldn’t decrypt your data if we tried! Only you can do so using a combination of your phone and your Vidadata account. We also use modern security techniques like Multi-factor aAuthentication, integrated biometrics, auto-logout and more. We highly advise you use a good, complex password that you don’t use elsewhere, to add to the multiple layers of security Vidadata offers you.

AES is a symmetric-key algorithm that uses the same key, a generated string of characters, to encrypt or decrypt assets. “256” refers to the size of those keys, in bits. AES-256 also employs 14 “rounds” of data transformation, providing additional layers of security. It is an encryption standard used by governments and financial institutions around the world.

RSA is an asymmetric cryptography algorithm that uses a private/public key pair that allows for the secure transmission of data. A common example of RSA encryption is secure sockets layer (SSL) encryption used by websites. Every time you see https:// at the beginning of a URL, you’re using RSA encryption. The “4096” part refers to the size of the key, the larger the better.

Vidadata uses a both! A locally generated AES-256 key, which is never known by Vidadata, is used to encrypt your data. Then RSA-4096 is used to transport the encrypted data between your devices.

MFA is an extra layer of security used to make sure that only you are accessing your account. You’re likely using MFA today on your other secure accounts. When you register with Vidadata, you will be asked to verify your cell phone number via a one-time password. Once you do, every time you log in to Vidadata on a new device, the app will ask you to verify a new OTP sent to your cell phone. This ensures that only you are accessing your Vidadata account, even if someone finds a way to get your username and password.

Sharing your life data with loved ones is at the core of Vidadata and why it was created. We will all experience death at some point, expectedly or unexpectedly. It is our goal and hope to make this experience less painful and less arduous for your loved ones, giving them time to mourn peacefully. Your loved ones should not struggle with getting access to critical information like bank account numbers, insurance and healthcare policies, etc. They should be able to focus on the mourning process, knowing that all this vital life information is already safely stored in a place they can easily get to from their mobile devices when the time is right. At minimum, we recommend sharing your data with at least one close family member.

You have complete control over your life data and who can access it. When setting up a shared user, you have several options:

  1. Share details of all assets immediately;
  2. Share details of selected assets immediately; or
  3. Don’t share any details of any assets.

If you choose the third option, your shared users will only be able to see the categories and titles of your assets, e.g. “Vehicle Insurance – Geico”, but will not be able to drill down and see anything more than that. If the unexpected happens, your shared users can make a claim to Vidadata and provide a valid death certificate to gain access to your asset details.
